Is Bitcoin legal in India?
Yes — buying and holding Bitcoin is legal. The Supreme Court lifted RBI’s banking ban in 2020. It is not legal tender (shops are not required to accept it like rupees). Always follow current rules and tax law.
India hub →How do I buy Bitcoin safely in India?
Use a reputable on-ramp, withdraw to a wallet you control, and never share OTPs or seed words. Start small, verify addresses carefully, and learn self-custody before large amounts.
Buy Bitcoin in India tutorial →Wallet vs exchange — what is safer?
An exchange holds bitcoin for you (custodial). A wallet you set up holds keys you control (self-custody). Exchanges are convenient for buying; long-term savings are safer in a wallet you control — “not your keys, not your coins.”
Self-custody basics →How do I avoid scams?
No legitimate person needs your seed phrase or OTP. Ignore “double your bitcoin,” fake apps, and unsolicited DMs. Download wallets only from official app stores. If it sounds too good to be true, it is.
